BATON ROUGE, LA– The Home Builders Association of Greater Baton Rouge (HBA|GBR) is proud to announce that the Louisiana State University (LSU) Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management’s student competition team placed first in the custom home/small build competition at this year’s National Association of Home Builders International Builders Show (NAHB IBS) held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Over three days, 63 student teams had the opportunity to demonstrate unique ways of applying classroom skills to real world home building scenarios. Each group presented proposals to a group of construction executives who served as official judges. The proposals were scored on accurate market analysis, clear construction management planning, professional oral and written presentation and more.
“The International Builders Show not only brings together the home building industry for the world’s largest construction show,” said Karen Zito, President and CEO, “it also showcases the next generation of industry leaders through the annual NAHB Student Competition. We are extremely proud of LSU’s Construction Management student team on their first-place finish and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our student leaders.”
The LSU Construction Management student team was led by faculty member Stephanie Heumann and the team members were Kyle Schmitt, Jake Salm, Colton Cowsar, Abel Turrubiartes, Caroline Smith, Blaire Favors, and Meriam Saad.
