What is your favorite thing about being an HBA member?
The genuine camaraderie that is illustrated throughout the HBA is inspiring. For example, being able to discuss the challenges in the industry with people that truly know the homebuilding industry is something I will never take for granted.
What has been your favorite project at your company?
Probably our 2010 Parade of Homes house. There were many unique amenities that were trend-setting at the time. It was also during the U.S. housing recession so it holds a special place in my heart.
When you sit down at a bar, what are you ordering?
A Cosmopolitan.
What is your favorite HBA|GBR event? Why?
The HBA’s Year End Celebration is awesome. I get to see everyone off of the job site, dressed up, and having fun. I can’t wait for this year!
What was your first job?
I worked behind the counter at Brach’s Candy Counter in 1966. The elder ladies that were head cashiers couldn’t lift the heavy boxes so I was doing the heaving lifting. I got promoted to cashier in 1967.
What is one industry-related thing you learned in the past month?
Drainage in EBR and Ascension is still a significant issue. However, instrumental drainage changes are being made.
In your opinion, what is the most important innovation in the industry in the last 5 years?
Since Harvey Smith has been exclusively remodeling since 2016, innovative home features and applications have been game changers. I can check the generator stats on any project no matter where I am.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
My parents taught me that you could do anything if you worked for it.
